Near Delhi, there is a place called Noida where Nithari is located. In Nithari, on one side, there is Sector 31 where rich people’s bungalows are located, while on the other side, there are neighborhoods of Nithari where daily wage laborers, rickshaw pullers, and house helpers reside. On the evening of May 7, 2006, there was a tense atmosphere at Nandlal’s house because his 22-year-old daughter, Payal, had not yet returned home from work. Nandlal himself went out to search for his daughter. First, he found the rickshaw driver who had taken his daughter. The rickshaw driver informed him that he had dropped his daughter near the bungalow D5 in Sector 31. The girl left without paying him, and when he went to collect the fare at the house, a man who worked there came out and told him that Payal had already left. The rickshaw driver said he hadn’t seen Payal leaving. This angered Kohli, who then hit the rickshaw driver with a stone.
Nandlal, while searching for his daughter, reached bungalow number D5. The owner of the bungalow, Maninder Singh Pander, said he didn’t know Nandlal’s daughter and that she had never been there. Upon hearing this, Nandlal filed a complaint with the police, but the police neither listened to him nor filed his complaint because for the past two years, many children and young people had been disappearing from there without any trace. The police told Nandlal that his daughter had probably eloped with someone. Nandlal didn’t give up and appealed to the court for his daughter. The Chief Magistrate ordered the police to investigate the case. During the investigation, the police found that the last known location of all the missing children and people was an area of 100m between two bridges over the drain in Nithari, where a water tank was located. People refer to that water tank as the haunted tank, and they believe that the ghost of the water tank is responsible for all the disappearances.
The police began patrolling the area, but the disappearance of children persisted, and they found no leads. Acting on Nandlal’s information, the police arrested Surinder Kohli because his daughter Payal was last seen at that same bungalow. During the investigation, Kohli take the police to watertank area where police founf skeltons of dead people in black polybags.they also found12 human skulls and other body parts like fingers of deceased people. He revealed that he had killed Payal and after her death, he chopped her body into pieces, cooked them, and consumed them. He claimed to have done the same with others as well. He stated that in his dreams, a woman in white clothes would instruct him to commit these crimes and would accompany him during each crime. In all these crimes, 52-year-old Maninder Singh was also involved. According to Kohli, he would lure children with toffees and chocolates and young people with promises of jobs, bringing them home where Pander would sexually abuse them, and then Kohli would kill them. Based on his testimony, the police also arrested Pander. Both were sentenced to death by the court for this heinous crime
