Tinder Murder

This is the story of Grace, who lived in a small house in the UK. On December 1, 2018, David and William were very excited to wish their daughter a happy birthday. Their daughter had gone on a solo trip to New Zealand. As soon as it struck midnight, they started calling Grace, but her phone kept going to voicemail. They thought maybe Grace’s phone battery had died, so they sent her a birthday message on WhatsApp. The next day, when they still didn’t receive any reply from Grace, they started to worry. They called one of Grace’s friends, who told them that Grace had gone on a date with a guy last night, and since then, they hadn’t heard from her.

David immediately lodged a missing complaint for his daughter with the New Zealand police. The New Zealand police promptly initiated an investigation, but for a few days, there was no clue about Grace’s whereabouts. One day, Detective Diana was checking Grace’s Facebook account when her attention was drawn to a comment by a guy named Jesse Kampson, whom Grace had interacted with on her birthday. Diana became suspicious and obtained Kampson’s phone number from the police, then video-called him. Kampson answered the call and explained that he had gone on a date with Grace but hadn’t heard from her since, and he was also worried about her. The police asked him to come to the station, but he said he was out of the city and promised to go to the police as soon as he returned. However, Diana didn’t trust him and started searching for him in every hotel in the city.

Then Diana saw Kampson leaving the City Life Hotel in a hurry. Seeing Diana, Kampson got scared and tried to run away, but Diana chased him down and handed him over to the police. Despite repeated questioning by the police, Kampson stuck to his statement. Then the police took Diana and Kampson to the CCTV room, where they showed them the video footage from the night Grace went missing at the City Life Hotel. The footage revealed that Grace and Kampson were happily entering the hotel, but shortly after, Kampson was seen taking a bag, a carpet cleaning machine, and a shovel from the lift to his room. The police understood that Kampson was involved in Grace’s disappearance. That’s when Kampson started confessing and told the police that he and Grace loved each other deeply. After their date, they went to the hotel and started making love. Suddenly, Grace asked him to choke her, but he accidentally applied too much pressure, and Grace died. However, the police didn’t believe his story and started investigating further.

The police checked his social media accounts and discovered that the day after Grace’s murder, he went on a date with another girl. His internet searches were disturbing, and they found photos of Grace’s body in his phone gallery. When questioned by the police, he began blaming the police for fabricating evidence to frame him. The police presented all this evidence in front of the magistrate in court and also revealed that he had been talking to several people on the Tinder app. The girl he went on a date with the day after Grace’s murder was also presented in court. She testified that Kampson had asked her strange questions during the date and had even attempted to molest her. After reviewing all the evidence and hearing the testimonies, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment. This enraged Kampson, and he started hurling abuses at the magistrate.

Afterward, several other girls lodged complaints against Kampson at the police station, stating that they had met him through the Tinder app. Kampson had lied to everyone about his job, and using a knife, he had raped several girls. Police investigation revealed that Kampson was a serial abuser. He is currently in jail. The Prime Minister of New Zealand personally apologized to Grace’s parents on behalf of the entire nation.

Indeed, this incident had deeply shaken the hearts of people across New Zealand.
